Modernity promised us a future of endless possibilities, a world where technology would liberate us from the mundane and propel us towards greater heights. Yet, as we stand amidst this technological revolution, we must ask ourselves: at what cost? The age of tech has inadvertently created a new class of victims—those marginalized by the rapid pace of change and the relentless march of innovation.


The first group that comes to mind is the elderly. This demographic, having grown up in a pre-digital age, often finds itself alienated in a world dominated by touchscreens and voice commands. The mental health crisis among our youth is a testament to the darker side of technology—a side that we, as a society, are still grappling to understand and address.


Moreover, the environment bears the scars of our technological advancements. E-waste, the byproduct of our insatiable appetite for the latest gadgets, pollutes our land and water. The resources extracted for our devices leave ecological footprints that cannot be undone. As we strive for innovation, we must not forget the natural world that sustains us—a world that is increasingly bearing the burden of our progress.


The digital divide is another stark reminder of the inequities perpetuated by modernity. Access to technology has become a new measure of wealth, creating a chasm between the haves and have-nots. In a society where opportunities are increasingly tied to connectivity, those without access are left behind, unable to partake in the digital economy. This divide runs deep, affecting education, healthcare, and employment prospects, further entrenching systemic inequalities.


As a tech enthusiast, I am not blind to the wonders that technology has brought to our lives. It has connected us in ways we never thought possible, democratized information, and spawned innovations that have saved lives. Yet, as we forge ahead, we must pause to consider those who are not on this journey with us—the victims of modernity.


We have a collective responsibility to bridge the gaps created by technology. This means investing in digital literacy programs for the elderly, providing retraining opportunities for displaced workers, implementing robust safeguards for our children's online activities, and developing sustainable practices for our planet. It also means advocating for equitable access to technology, ensuring that progress does not come at the expense of inclusivity.


The age of technology is a testament to human ingenuity, but it should not be a monument to our indifference. As we revel in the marvels of modernity, let us not forget the silent voices, the unseen struggles, and the hidden costs.
